House and “Joe The Neighbor” are missed at Halloween
October 30th, 2008 Categories: silver spring real estate
About this time in October, a former Neighbor used to decorate his home to celebrate the season.
It started about 6 years ago, each year after that the decor for each season, got bigger and bigger, until every 4th of July, Christmas and Halloween you could count on every inch of the house and front yard being covered in lights and decoration. People from the neighborhood would come to look and take pictures.
Joseph, ( Joe The Neighbor ) moved the summer of 2007 and the Holidays haven’t seemed the same since.
Joseph, if you are reading my blog I hope you know that it’s just not Halloween around
here without you living here this year. Oh and . . Christmas and the 4th of July too.
This year, the big event for the Downtown Silver Spring Neighborhood takes place on November 1st.

A BIG event for all ages is coming . . .
It’s the Downtown Silver Spring ZombieWalk!

It’s that time of year – The 3 Best Places for Chicken Soup in Silver Spring
October 24th, 2008 Categories: silver spring real estate
It’s nippy, damp and clammy out. Today was the day to get my first guart of Chicken Soup for the season from the Parkway Deli (also known as the Grubb Road Deli)
in Silver Spring.
Yummm . . . . It never disappoints at this time of the year and through the rest of the fall and winter. I consider this the best chicken soup in Silver Spring.
It is really the “Matzoh Ball Soup” served from a big square vat at the carry out part of the restaurant. I always order mine “without balls” (matzoh that is) or with “just one ball” The matzoh balls are not that bad, but they take up too much room out of all that rich, hearty chicken broth with noodles and veggies.
The second best chicken soup is served at the Woodside Deli. The Woodside has both Chicken Noodle Soup and Matzoh Ball Soup on their menu.
Third best is the Chicken Noodle Soup (sans balls) from the Tastee Diner – It’s homemade and very good, but they only serve it up on Thursdays and Sundays.

New Updated Market Reports for Silver Spring Neighborhoods
October 23rd, 2008 Categories: silver spring real estate
What’s been happening in your Silver Spring Neighborhood in our challenging real estate market this year?
The Silver Spring Real Estate market is composed of so many hyper-local “micro-markets” that can differ greatly right down to a certain side of a street or block in a subdivision. Because there are not a lot of “tract” or “cookie cutter” houses in Silver Spring, there are no “one-size-fits all” neighborhoods or home values in Silver Spring.
In the coming weeks we will cover what’s been happening since January 1, 2008 to the present in most of the neighborhoods and subdivisions of Single Family Homes, Condos and Townhouses in “Close-In” Silver Spring. Suggestions for neighborhoods are welcome . . . . . We really love doing the funky, off-beat and unusual ones!
Real Estate Activity Year to Date Reports

To Buy or Not to Buy – 7 Reasons You Should NOT Buy in today’s market and 4 Reasons You Should
October 10th, 2008 Categories: silver spring real estate
You Should NOT buy if you . . . .
- Believe that home prices always go up.
- Don’t have emotional tolerance for market declines.
- Know that the interest rates will continue to significantly decline.
- View the house primarily as an investment, rather then a place to live.
- Don’t have a substantial (20%) down payment and excellent credit scores.
- Can’t afford all monthly costs, associated with home ownership.
- Are not certain if you can stay in the house for at least 5 years.
You should buy if . . . . .
- You want a nice tax break/deduction when April 15th comes along every year.
- You want a nice place to live that you can call your own. Stability is important to you because of schools, commute or other reasons.
- You know that home prices have declined in many neighborhoods, and you could pay less now for the same house you had your eye on several years ago.
- The interest rates are low, but could increase.
